Will you carry my book?
Local independent authors are an important part of the bookseller industry! Because we are a very small shop, we do not have the capacity to sell books by local independent authors all year round. However, every April we will host a local independent author event at the store for selected writers to talk about their work, sell their books, and sign copies for attendees.
Before applying to be a guest author, please think about the following:

Can I return something?
Rooted accepts returns on merchandise in original, saleable condition within thirty days of purchase, with proof of purchase. A receipt must be present for a refund in the same form as payment. For gift returns or other returns without the original receipt, store credit will be issued. Certain items (determined on a case by case basis) are nonrefundable. Please contact us prior to purchasing if you are unsure.
Can I order online?
Online orders can be made via our Bookshop store. Customers can also place orders in person, over the phone, or by email. For orders placed with us, we ask that you pay at the time of ordering (with the exception of bulk orders).

Will you donate to my event?
We receive requests for donations from many worthy organizations. While we understand that your cause is very important, we have our own list of organizations that we feel passionate about; donations are earmarked for those first. We cannot guarantee there will be a donation available for your organization.
Due to the large amount of requests we receive, we cannot consider your request unless it meets the following criteria:

Donations will only be considered for LOCAL organizations and events.

Requests for donations must be received at least 30 days prior to the event.

Yes! Please email us at owner@rootedbooksandgifts.com to place large orders.
Why are your prices higher than Amazon's?
Amazon's primary goal is not to sell books or care for communities. They are a multibillion dollar corporation whose bottom line is to make money. This means they can and do regularly participate in illegal or unethical practices that do not value people or the book industry. That's how they keep their prices low.
In contrast, when you support small, independent businesses like ours, we are able to give back to our communities. Research shows that local businesses recirculate 29.3% of its earnings back into the community as opposed to Amazon who only recirculates 5.8%. Unlike Amazon or other chain retailers like Barnes and Noble, our inventory is hand selected with specific community members in mind. We create local jobs and offer a unique experience to our community. Everything we do is with our community in mind.

Why don't you carry all books?
We only have a small space to devote to books, so we prioritize inventory that aligns with our values and cannot easily be found elsewhere. If you'd like a book that isn't on our shelves, ask us how we can order it for you!
Can my organization use your space?
We are happy to open our space to organizations whose work aligns with our values! We have flexible seating options for 15 people. Because a staff member needs to be present for these events, we do charge $50/hour. Contact us at owner@rootedbooksandgifts.com for availability.
