Rooted Books & Gifts is more than a bookstore; it is a space where folks can come to rest, learn, and make new connections that are rooted in our community and in radical inclusivity.
At Rooted Books & Gifts, we value community and growth. We want to help people feel connected to our small corner of the world. We desire to be a place where people can expand and learn how to be better neighbors so our community can be one where all can flourish.
Rooted Books & Gifts aims to be a haven for the outsider and is committed to fighting bigotry in all facets of society. On a practical level, this means: We regularly donate to and support LGBTQIA+ organizations. We will push back on local, state, and federal policies that strip away rights for all people to have bodily autonomy. We believe in fully funded public schools. We believe that immigrants belong in our communities even if they had to break laws to be here. We believe that unjust laws can and should be broken (reference to Dr. MLK Jr's "Letter From a Birmingham Jail"). We believe in mutual aid. We believe all people should have the freedom to read and access information; we do not support book banning of any sort.
We strive to ensure our inventory, events, and staff reflect our values. If you notice something in our operation that contradicts our values, please speak up. We will do our best to receive feedback humbly, accept responsibility, and course correct.
We are located on land the Očhéthi Šakówiŋ (Sioux) and Pâri (Pawnee) first called home.
